Welcome to the first season of the Ultimate Chess Club League, where we invite up to 16 chess club teams to face off in a Round Robin format. Only one team will emerge triumphant with the championship trophy. Teams will consist of 4 starting players and 4 optional substitute player, one for each of the 4 sections. This series will be hosted across 5 dates from September to December 2025. Guaranteed $2500 in prizes, which includes prize money and trophies for the winning team and best player in each section.
We request that team captains fill out the form on behalf of their team. Individual entries will not be accepted. The deadline to submit your registration is August 25th, 2025. The Round Robin pairing will be posted on August 30th, 2025.

For the round of 16, we will split the 16 teams into two groups of 8. Teams will face off against each other in their group, and garner 1 team point for every win. Round 1 and 2 will be held on separate dates: Sep 21st and Oct 12th, 2025. Top 4 teams from each group will qualify for the round of 8.
For the round of 8, teams will face off against other teams, and garner 1 team point for every win. Round 1 and 2 will be held on separate dates: Nov 2nd and Nov 23rd, 2025. Top 4 teams will qualify for the semi-finals and finals.
League Rules
1. Up to 16 teams with can participate on a first come serve basis. The team must be composed of 1 starting player and 1 optional substitute layer in each of these sections: U1000/ U1400/ U1800/ OPEN, for a total of u to 8 players. Each player will compete only in their registered section. No unrated players allowed. No play-ups allowed.
2. Each starting player can be substituted once in the round of 16 and once in the round of 8. Each section is only allowed one substitute player. If a player’s rating crosses the section threshold after a league game, they are eligible for a FREE substitution by default as it is mandatory to meet the rating requirements.
3. Substitutions can be made after the league starts but cannot be transferred from another club/ team. List of potential substitutes must be provided along with team submission. The team captain is responsible for registering the team. The organizer will coordinate with only the team captains and not individual players.
4. Team names can be based on local chess academies/ represent a city, area, neighborhood or town. Names will be reviewed and approved by our committee to avoid conflicts and overlap. Common examples: Langley Lions, Richmond Chess Champions, Vancity Chess etc.. Trademarked brands/ personalities are forbidden as team names.
