CHESS 960 CHRISTMAS OPEN 2024 (Dec 22, 2024)

Are you ready for a festive chess showdown like no other? The inaugural Chess 960 Christmas Open 2024 is here, and it promises to be a spectacular event for chess enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels from around the globe!

Why Chess 960?
Chess 960, also known as Fischer Random Chess, adds a thrilling twist to the traditional game. By randomizing the back-rank pieces, every match feels fresh and unpredictable, challenging even the most seasoned players to think on their feet.

The time control will be 15 minutes per player and an increment of 10 seconds per move. The position of the pieces will be revealed to the players 15 minutes before scheduled play, with the players able to consult a registered second beforehand. Players will get 1 point for winning, 0.5 points each for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. Please refer the handbook for rules: https://rcc.fide.com/guidelinesii/.

Format: Swiss Rapid. 15 min + 10 sec per move increment.
Event type: Casual. 5 rounds.

Early bird entry fee: $40 + GST
Early bird entry deadline: Nov 22nd, 2024
Regular entry fee: $50 + GST
Regular entry deadline : December 21st, 2024, midnight

All withdrawal/ refund requests must be submitted by this deadline. Note that a $10 processing fee will apply to all refunds.

Free entry for players rated 2300 and up. Upon winning any prize money, the full entry fee will be deducted from the prize.

Policies and Guidelines:

1. Active CFC membership is required to play. We assist with CFC membership registration along with tournament entry. This tournament uses CFC Quick ratings.
2. You may request a full refund before registration closes. No refunds after that.
3. We reserve the right to move players to the appropriate section based on their grades.
4. You may request a maximum of two ½ point byes.
No byes on Round 6(requests for a bye on Round 6 will be ignored, or you will receive a 0-point bye).
5. No food or beverages allowed during a live match.
6. Photos are allowed, but please be discrete and respectful to not disturb players.
7. Silence is required in the playing area while games are in progress. Parents assisting their kids/ suggesting moves will lead to IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION OF THE PLAYER.
8. Any player/ parent/ guardian with frequent coughing, sneezing, other visible symptoms of illness may be asked to withdraw from the tournament/ leave the premises.
9. If you have experienced COVID-19 or its symptoms in past 14 days, we request you to voluntarily withdraw from the tournament for health and safety of all our patrons. Face masks are recommended for all.
10. All electronics capable of making noise, communicating, or playing chess must be switched off while playing and should not be placed on the table during the live rounds.
11. Anyone entering the venue premises consents to being photographed/ videos recorded. This footage may be used for internal references, social media marketing or promotional purposes. If you do not wish to be clicked/ recorded/ promoted – you may contact us via email and we will take care of your request.
12. In the event of a tie, prize money split evenly among everyone tied for that position. Tiebreak for non-cash prizes decided by:
a. Head-to-head score of tied players
b. Cumulative score of opponents
13. Decision of the Tournament Director will be final in the event of a conflict. The final standings declared after tournament completion cannot be altered or changed.
14. The CFC website does not factor custom tie-breaks used at individual tournaments while updating ratings. The sequence of players displayed on CFC website may be based on player’s overall “performance” rating or random (NOT as per tournament final standings issued by organizers/ TD).
