Chess Academy

Fraser Valley Chess Academy is a chess education centre located in Langley, British Columbia. We offer a variety of chess programs for students of all ages and skill levels. Our experienced and dedicated instructors provide a fun and challenging learning environment that helps students improve their chess skills and strategies. We also host chess tournaments and events throughout the year to give our students the opportunity to compete and showcase their skills. Our goal is to promote the love and learning of chess in the Fraser Valley community.

Naughty Knights

Ideal for players who have no or limited prior knowledge of chess and would like to develop their problem solving skills/ take first steps towards exploring the amazing and limitless world of CHESS – which is undoubtedly the most popular board game in the world. Highly recommended for kids in grade 1, 2 & 3.

Relentless Rooks

Recommended for players who have cleared L4 of Naughty Knights Program/ equivalent elsewhere. They have a strong foundation of chess fundamentals and entry level exposure to analyzing match summary. This program acts as the bridge or a stepping stone for players to excel in their game.

Recommended for players who have cleared L4 of Relentless Rooks (Emerging Stars) Program/ equivalent elsewhere. Have proficiency in opening, middle and end game strategies along with advanced analytics capabilities. Involves participating in tournaments/ competitive events.

Both Spring Rapid and Spring Classical tournaments will be played under OPEN section only. There will prizes for various categories including Top 3 winners, Best U1700 Player, Best U1400 Player, Best Female Player, Best U1100 Player and Best Unrated Player. Prizes are subject to minor changes/ upgrades based on total number of entries.
The CFC (Canadian Chess Federation) represents Canada to the world as a member of FIDE, the international chess body. As a CFC member, you have access to all CFC rated events across Canada, and will obtain national CFC chess ratings. There are two types of CFC ratings: Regular, and Quick. Long story short, all tournaments with long games (60+ min per player) use your CFC regular rating. Tournaments with shorter games (< 60 min per player) use your CFC quick rating. They are different ratings and do NOT overlap. This tournament uses CFC Quick ratings**
