JKE Spring 2026 Chess & STEM After-School Program

As we head out of Spring Break, we are gearing up to continue the chess and robotics program at James Kennedy Elementary for the Spring 2026 term. The programs are proudly organized by the school PAC team in partnership with Zebra Robotics Langley and Fraser Valley Chess Academy.

All Grade 1 to 7 JKE students are eligible to enroll regardless of whether you participated in the program last term. For returning students, we shall continue the course from where we left off.

The STEM program is back with various upgrades as we are offering a variety of age appropriate courses:
-Jr. Game Developer I (Scratch & block-based coding)
-Minecraft Adventures (MakeCode)
-Robotics Engineer I
-Web Developer (HTML & JavaScript)
-Robotics Engineer II (Python coding)

Terms & Conditions:
– Registration will be on a first come first serve basis for paid students only. 
– Full refund can be requested via email before the program starts. A $25 admin + processing fee deduction shall apply on all refunds. 
– After the program starts, cancellation can be accepted within the first 2 weeks with a pro-rated refund for balance sessions.  
– After week 3, there will be no refunds issued for cancellation/ drop-outs. 
– No refunds or credits for regular student absence, unless there is a long leave of absence due to emergency.

Chess program will run every Friday 2:30pm to 4pm (90 minutes), from Apr 10th to Jun 19th, with no sessions on May 15th, for a total of 10 sessions.

Robotics program will run every Wednesday 2:30pm to 4pm (90 minutes), from Apr 15th to Jun 17th, for a total of 10 sessions.

The CFC (Canadian Chess Federation) represents Canada to the world as a member of FIDE, the international chess body. As a CFC member, you have access to all CFC rated events across Canada, and will obtain national CFC chess ratings. There are two types of CFC ratings: Regular, and Quick. Long story short, all tournaments with long games (60+ min per player) use your CFC regular rating. Tournaments with shorter games (< 60 min per player) use your CFC quick rating. They are different ratings and do NOT overlap. This tournament uses CFC Quick ratings.
