JKE Fall 2025 Chess & Robotics After-School Program

As the lovely summer rolls around, we are gearing up to continue the chess and robotics program at James Kennedy Elementary for the Fall 2025 term. The programs are proudly organized by the school PAC team in partnership with Zebra Robotics Langley and Fraser Valley Chess Academy.

All G2-7 JKE students are eligible to enroll regardless of whether you participated in the program last term. For returning students, we shall continue the course from where we left off. 

The Fall 2025 schedule is as follows:
– Robotics Engineer I: every Wednesday, 2:30 pm to 4 pm (90 minutes): from Sep 17th to Nov 19th, 2025 for a total of 10 sessions.
– Naughty Knights Chess: every Friday, 2:30 pm to 4 pm (90 minutes): from Sep 19th to Nov 28th, 2025 for a total of 10 sessions. (No session on Oct 24th due to Pro-D Day at the school).
Per student fee for each program: $262.5 (tax inclusive)
Registration deadline: Sep 10th, 2025 midnight.

In order to encourage the school chess team to enter the competitive turf, we are offering booking forms to one of our of kid-friendly chess competitions in the form below. These are optional but recommended, and will allow our instructors to better prepare the students during their program. Parents can decide to register for these now or at a later time.

Terms & Conditions:
– Registration will be on a first come first serve basis for paid students only. 
– Full refund can be requested via email before the program starts. A $20 admin + processing fee deduction shall apply on all refunds. 
– After the program starts, cancellation can be accepted within the first 2 weeks with a pro-rated refund for balance sessions.  
– After week 3, there will be no refunds issued for cancellation/ drop-outs. 
– No refunds or credits for regular student absence, unless there is a long leave of absence due to emergency.

For the duration of September to November, this give students access to our proprietary curriculum, practice through frequent online tournaments, challenge bots to increase their strength, and for us to track their progress, assignment homework, analyze their Lichess/ Chess.com games and much more.

The FVCA Students & Coaches Rapid is our tournament series exclusively for our in-branch and after-school program students. This is a great way to introduce students to rated tournaments.

The CFC (Canadian Chess Federation) represents Canada to the world as a member of FIDE, the international chess body. As a CFC member, you have access to all CFC rated events across Canada, and will obtain national CFC chess ratings. There are two types of CFC ratings: Regular, and Quick. Long story short, all tournaments with long games (60+ min per player) use your CFC regular rating. Tournaments with shorter games (< 60 min per player) use your CFC quick rating. They are different ratings and do NOT overlap. This tournament uses CFC Quick ratings.
