FVCA is excited to host the BC Youth Chess Championship 2026! This is the officially sanctioned BC provincial qualifier for the 2026 Canadian Youth Chess Championship happening in Ottawa. Any player who scores 50% or more in any section of the BCYCC 2026 automatically qualifies for the same section in CYCC 2026.

Winners in their section will receive the title of champion and have their name engraved on the section’s perpetual trophy, right alongside the names of the previous champions. The prize pool this year is $11,070 in total, including CYCC travel subsidies, cash prizes, and FVCA gift vouchers. The BCYCC welcomes players of all skill levels, including beginners, and there are no rating barriers to entry, as sections are categorized by age groups. This is a juniors only event.

Parking:
We have reserve a 7-storey parkade next to the playing area, exclusively for BCYCC participants, families, and spectators. Special arrangements have been made to obtain subsidized parking passes at an exclusive rate of $8 per day. We recommend purchasing the parking pass in the registration form to avoid paying higher fees on site and any issues with parking tickets. There is no free parking on the SFU Burnaby Campus; all parking is paid parking, via permit, paystation, or app.

After purchasing the parking pass, there is no further action required form your side. We will share the lot number with all registered participants in our welcome email.

Skittles room: Fitness Studio, one floor directly below Skittles room. (Stairs are right outside the door.) Chairs provided.
Large outdoor balcony.

Public transit access by bus.
4 minute walk to UniverCity; restaurants of various cuisines, grocery stores, and more.
Nearby parks for walking and relaxation.

*CYCC subsidies will be issued in the form of reimbursement after the player has been verified to have attended CYCC. This will be according to the 2026 CYCC cross table posted on the CFC website after the CYCC is rated. For those who are eligible for the subsidy, please contact us at [email protected] after the CYCC rating update. The reimbursement will be processed within 10 days of confirmation. The deadline for subsidy claim will be September 1st, 2026. After which, if the subsidy remains unclaimed, it will be passed down to the next winner, for up to the 10th player in each section. Final subsidy claims must be made by November 30th, 2026.

Feel free to contact us at [email protected] for any questions.
