Welcome to the 4th Annual BC Inter-School Junior Chess Championship! This year we are hosting this event at the Khalsa School Newton campus in Surrey, BC. A wonderful opportunity for school chess clubs to compete as a team and win prizes in 5 Classical Sections separated by Grade (KG-G2, G3-G5 G6-G8, G9-G12, and University). For the first time at this event, we are hosting a Bonus Blitz tournament at the end of Day 1 on May 30th!.

Guaranteed prizes are worth $3500 plus medals and trophies for individual/ best school positions. Various other spot prizes and certificate of participation for all players. Students across KG to Gr. 12 can register via school sponsorship or parents can register directly (players get to represent their school in either case). Entry Fee: Early Bird Entry fee: $80 + GST per player (applicable to registrations on and before March 31st, 2025)
Regular Entry fee: $90 + GST per player until May 29th, 2025, midnight
Bonus Blitz Entry fee: $10 + GST

6 rounds CFC-rated Classical (3 rounds per day).
Time control: 50 min + 10 sec increment per move

Schedule:

Day 1: May 30th, 2026 (Saturday) – Arrive by 9am.
Round 1: 9:30am to 11:30am;
Round 2: 12:15pm to 2:15pm;
Round 3: 3pm to 5pm
Bonus Blitz: Rounds 1 to 7 from 5:30pm to 7:15pm (or ASAP)

Day 2: May 31st, 2026 (Sunday) – Arrive by 9:15am

Scoring System for SD & School prizes:
Classical: Each win = 2 points, Draw = 1 point, Loss = 0 point.
Blitz: Each win = 1 point, Draw = 1/2 point, Loss = 0 point.
Up to top 5 players from each school shall be able to contribute towards the school team points.
All tied players from each section receive a Medal of recognition + cash prize split.

The CFC (Canadian Chess Federation) represents Canada to the world as a member of FIDE, the international chess body. As a CFC member, you have access to all CFC rated events across Canada, and will obtain national CFC chess ratings. There are two types of CFC ratings: Regular, and Quick. Long story short, all tournaments with long games (60+ min per player) use your CFC regular rating. Tournaments with shorter games (< 60 min per player) use your CFC quick rating. Policies and Guidelines:

1. Active CFC membership is required to play. We assist with CFC membership registration along with tournament entry. This tournament uses both CFC Quick & Regular ratings based on the section in which you participate.
2. You may request a full refund before registration closes. No refunds after that.
3. We reserve the right to move players to the appropriate section based on their age group/ grade after verification. It is recommended to carry a piece of photo ID for verification purposes. Only students currently enrolled in a school & under the age of 18 years are allowed to participate in this event.
4. You may request a maximum of two ½ point byes.
No byes on Round 6 for Rapid & Classical sections (requests for a bye on Round 6 will be ignored, or you will receive a 0-point bye). No byes on Round 11 & 12 for Blitz section (requests for a bye on Round 6 will be ignored, or you will receive a 0-point bye).
5. No food or beverages allowed during a live match.
6. Photos are allowed for the first 5 minutes of each round, but please be discrete and respectful to not disturb players.
7. Silence is required in the playing area while games are in progress. Parents assisting their kids/ suggesting moves will lead to IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION OF THE PLAYER.
8. Any player/ parent/ guardian with frequent coughing, sneezing, other visible symptoms of illness may be asked to withdraw from the tournament/ leave the premises.
9. If you have experienced COVID-19 or its symptoms in past 14 days, we request you to voluntarily withdraw from the tournament for health and safety of all our patrons. Face masks are recommended for all.
10. All electronics capable of making noise, communicating, or playing chess must be switched off while playing and should not be placed on the table during the live rounds.
11. Anyone entering the venue premises consents to being photographed/ videos recorded. This footage may be used for internal references, social media marketing or promotional purposes. If you do not wish to be clicked/ recorded/ promoted – you may contact us via email and we will take care of your request.
12. In the event of a tie, prize money split evenly among everyone tied for that position. Tiebreak for non-cash prizes decided by:
a. Head-to-head score of tied players
b. Cumulative score of opponents
c. Armageddon Blitz 5|4
13. Decision of the Tournament Director will be final in the event of a conflict. The final standings declared after tournament completion cannot be altered or changed.
14. The CFC website does not factor custom tie-breaks used at individual tournaments while updating ratings. The sequence of players displayed on CFC website may be based on player’s overall “performance” rating or random (NOT as per tournament final standings issued by organizers/ TD).
15.
