Crescent Heights Spring 2025 Chess & Minecraft After-School Program

Spring break is finally upon us, and so is the Chess and Minecraft program at Crescent Heights for the Spring 2025 term! The programs are proudly organized by Fraser Valley Chess Academy and Zebra Robotics Langley

All Grade 2 to 7 Crescent Heights students are eligible to enroll in the programs regardless of whether you participated in the program last term.

Minecraft Program Schedule: Every Monday 3:15 PM to 4:15 PM (60 minutes), from April 7th to June 2nd, no sessions on April 21st and May 19th, for a total of 7 sessions.
Per student fee: $184 (GST inclusive)

Chess Program Schedule: Every Wednesday 3:15 PM to 4:15 PM (60 minutes), from April 9th to June 4th, no session on May 21st, for a total of 8 sessions.
Per student fee: $210 (GST inclusive)

In order to encourage the school chess team to enter the competitive turf, we are offering booking forms to 2 of our kids friendly competitions in the form below. These are optional but recommended, and will allow our instructors to better prepare the students during their program. Parents can decide to register for these now or at a later time.

For chess students, there will also be an option to subscribe to our Chess Student Portal. For the duration of April to June, this portal gives students access to our proprietary curriculum, practice through frequent online tournaments, challenge bots to increase their strength, and for us to track their progress, assignment homework, analyze their Lichess/ Chess.com games and much more.

Terms & Conditions:
– Registration will be on a first come first serve basis for paid students only. 
– Full refund can be requested via email before the program starts. A $10 admin + processing fee deduction shall apply on all refunds. 
– After the program starts, cancellation can be accepted within the first 2 weeks with a pro-rated refund for balance sessions.  
– After week 3, there will be no refunds issued for cancellation/ drop-outs. 
– No refunds or credits for regular student absence, unless there is a long leave of absence due to emergency.

In partnership with Cambridge Elementary School PAC team, Fraser Valley Chess Academy is bringing back the Surrey Junior Rapid series this year on April 12th, 2025. Chess players from KG all the way up to G12 across BC are welcome.

This is an official qualifier tournament for the 2025 Canadian Youth Chess Championship.

The Annual BC Inter-School Championship is a chance for students to represent their school in our largest tournament series. Last year, we saw over 250 players from all across BC. The tournament is happening May 31 to Jun 1, 2025, at HD Stafford Middle School, Langley. You can find more details about this event on our tournaments page.

The CFC (Canadian Chess Federation) represents Canada to the world as a member of FIDE, the international chess body. As a CFC member, you have access to all CFC rated events across Canada, and will obtain national CFC chess ratings. There are two types of CFC ratings: Regular, and Quick. Long story short, all tournaments with long games (60+ min per player) use your CFC regular rating. Tournaments with shorter games (< 60 min per player) use your CFC quick rating. They are different ratings and do NOT overlap. This tournament uses CFC Quick ratings.
